Dr. Ralph C. Smedley, founder of Toastmasters International
Speaking in front of a room full of people is not most peoples’ idea of a good time. In fact studies indicate that 3 out of 4 people, around the world, fear public speaking. That makes public speaking mankind's most commonly held fear - even surpassing fear of dying. Overcoming that fear by learning how to organize and present a speech properly, with clarity and confidence can be both personally and professionally rewarding and quite enjoyable when done in a friendly, supportive environment. A Toastmasters’ club is just that – a friendly, supportive place to learn and practice public speaking and leadership skills. ![]() Smedley Chapter 1 is the original Toastmaster's club founded by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley in 1924. Our club is a "community club" open to adults interested in personal development as a communicator and leader. We enjoy a diverse membership of men and women of all ages, cultural and professional backgrounds and pride ourselves on providing an effective learning environment for all of our club members while having fun with a variety of social events for our members, families and friends. Our meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month from 6:59 PM – 8:30 PM. We have found that this schedule allows us ample time to meet the educational needs of our members while allowing time for other activities without over-burdening our members.
Smedley Chapter 1 is open to all interested adults. Plan to visit us soon.
